Helena Torné Morató

Helena Torné Morató is collaborating with Stefano Mariani, winner of the 2024 FPS Roberto Revoltella Grant in Oncology. Starting in July 2025, at the Fondazione Pisana per la Scienza ETS (FPS), she has been working on the development of fluorescent and quantitative lateral flow assays for the detection of biomarkers of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Her research draws on her extensive experience in nanoscience and the optimization of point-of-care diagnostic devices.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in 2016, he went on to earn two master’s degrees: one in Molecular Biotechnology (2017) from the same university and one in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 2020. In 2025, he completed his Ph.D. in Chemical and Materials Science and Technology at the University of Genoa and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). During his Ph.D., he developed several colorimetric devices, including lateral flow immunoassays (LFIA) enhanced by electrospun membranes and plasmonic biosensors for medical and veterinary applications.

Throughout her career, she has conducted research at various European institutions, such as the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) and the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM) in Spain, and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa. In these settings, she specialized in the synthesis of nanomaterials and the development of ultrasensitive diagnostic assays for biomedical monitoring.
