Luca Fidia Pardini’s research is focused on the effects of inhibitors on glioblastoma. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive and lethal primary brain tumour in adults, with a median survival of less than 2 years. Presently, its treatment is based on resection combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, GBM tumours relapse, and so additional chemotherapeutic agents are needed. In this project we will investigate the effects of different inhibitors of key regulators in GBM cells, in both GBM cells and GBM stem cells. A key aim is to identify new targets that could increase the efficacy of these inhibitors.
Luca Fidia Pardini achieved the Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry at University of Pisa. His thesis focused on Sonogashira – Cassar – Heck alkynylation of aliphatic alkenyl halides, with supported catalysts and without the addition of copper.
Luca Fidia Pardini is now a student of the Doctoral School of Chemical and Material science of the University of Pisa, and he’s developing his project at Fondazione Pisana per la Scienza ONLUS, under the supervision of Dr. Liam McDonnell.
